Canto, Kent State Stark’s student magazine for the creative arts, offers students many ways to learn more about editing and publishing.
Canto is currently looking for qualified Kent State Stark students to work on the staff of our next volume!
If you would like to apply, please read the information below and then fill out the application at the bottom of the page. All Kent State Stark students who will be taking at least six (6) credit hours through the Stark campus in the Fall of 2019 are eligible to apply. Students within all majors are encouraged to apply for the various positions. Previous publication or editorial experience is preferred, but not required. Availability will be a factor in selection, and dependability is essential. In addition, the vast majority of correspondence between staff members will take place over email; therefore, all staff members will be expected to regularly check their official Kent State email. All positions at Canto are unpaid.

Descriptions of Open Positions:
Managing Editor: Assists the Editor in Chief in organizing staff, overseeing publication procedures, preparing drafts for publication, and other tasks.
Art Editor: Coordinates with Art Reviewers for the blind selection process, involved in selection of art for publication, and other tasks.
Nonfiction Editor: Coordinates with Readers for the blind selection process, involved in selection of pieces for publication, copyedits pieces prior to publication, and other tasks.
Layout Editor: Responsible for formatting the publication in InDesign and assisting in proofreading, among other tasks.
Web Editor: Responsible for uploading current and previous editions of the publication to the website, among other tasks.
Literature Readers: Read and score literature (fiction, nonfiction, and poetry) pieces submitted for publication in a blind review process.
Art Reviewers: Examine and score art submitted for publication in a blind review process.
